I frequently travel by plane, back and forth from my Studios North in Ashfield, MA to My Studios South, Casa de los Artistas, near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Though I often do a lot of plein air painting at both locations, this painting is from a series I humorously call my Plane Air Paintings, derived from photos and sketches done on route in a airplane. I have always been fascinated by clouds and "skyscapes" and how the sky can convey so much mood, emotion and statement of being. In-fact, many of my landscapes and still lifes are dominated by sky, as I often like to pit the finite against the infinite, reflecting my sense of self with the universe. This particular series however has no terrestrial reference and I feel has an even more transcendent feel.
