    Description

I painted this pre civil war house in Mississippi a few months ago, while living in Southern California, surrounded by salty ocean breezes and palm trees. I've lived in SoCal about 15 years and although I love living here, my heart will always be in the south, especially Mississippi and Alabama.

I miss the air as sweet as honeysuckle and as wet as thick as pea soup, the tea so sweet it hurts my teeth, biscuits light as air, the red clay dirt of Alabama that was so hard it broke my shovel, the slowest drawls of south Mississippi, the beautiful pottery of the delta, the southern literature with a language all its own, my friends who became my family, screened in porches and back decks where everyone lived, the jungle growth that was everywhere in Birmingham, even kudzu, the sound of rainstorms, beautiful springs, Cajun music, ok, I'll stop here before I start talking about food. That could last forever.

This is my lovesong to the Mississippi delta, home to Stewart Pottery and McCarty Pottery, two of my favorite potters in the world. And Taylor Grocer, where the finest catfish and red beans and rice is served.
